Breast augmentation is a procedure which involves placing an implant either behind the breast tissue or under the muscle on the chest wall.
Those who have smaller than desired full breasts as well as women who have experienced shrinkage of the breast tissue after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Breast augmentation provides breast size and shape that the individual woman desires. The implant has a lifetime guarantee, however we advise they may need to be replaced after 10 to 12 years.
Prior to your first consultation, our specialised photographer will show you the Vectra 3D system and explain how it works. A high-resolution 3D image of you will be taken so that your surgeon can then digitally alter this image to simulate the results of your surgery. This will give you a real sense of your body after surgery.
During your first breast augmentation consultation in Melbourne, your surgeon will discuss what you’d like to achieve, any expectations you have, various options available including type and size of implant and the location of incision. Information about your breast history, mammograms, ultrasounds or biopsies, questions about the procedure, medical history and current medication will also be discussed.
Please bring any relevant information to this consultation. We will provide as much information as possible so that you feel comfortable and informed, and if you feel overwhelmed in any way we encourage you to make a second consultation so that you feel confident with your decision.
Please ensure you have arranged someone to drive you home after your surgery and to help you out at home for a few days. To reduce risk of bleeding and bruising please make sure to:
We will guide you to prepare for surgery so that your procedure and recovery go smoothly. On the day bring your toiletries, any medication needed and loose clothing.
Breast augmentation surgery is performed under general anaesthetic so that you will be completely unaware of the surgery or any pain, and sleep comfortably through the procedure.
During the surgery, an incision is made under each breast, a pocket is created and the chosen implant is inserted into the area. The incision is stitched with dissolvable sutures that are placed under the skin to minimise scarring. The scar is taped for support and a pressure dressing placed on your chest area. This procedure usually takes up to 90 minutes.
Please call our Melbourne office if you experience any of the following: excessive pain or bleeding, abnormal swelling or fever during the first 24 hours.
During your consultation, the surgeon will discuss with you your goals in relation to the result you are wanting to achieve. The surgeon will then take your measurements and recommend the sizing and implant style for you. You will then be able to use a sizer (placed in your bra), to get a feel for size. We will also be able to show you the size using the 3D photos that we took previously.
Round shaped implants provide fullness at both the lower and higher part of the implant, where tear drop shaped implants tend to be less full at the top. Anatomical are sometimes considered more natural, however this is not always the case as round implants too can create a very natural result. It will depend to some degree on your measurements and starting point. Once again, we will be able to show you using the 3d imaging, so you can see what suits you.
We would typically make the incision in the breast fold. The incision is 2-3 cms long and with good care, will fade to near nothing in 15-18 months. The incision is also hidden under bra/bikini top etc. In some instances, where patients are prone to keloid scarring, we can do the incision under the arm pit.
The average breast augmentation takes 1 hour. Its is done as a day procedure, so no overnight stay.
